7 Lip Liner Hacks

Posted by Blank Canvas Cosmetics on

You may not realize it, but your lip liner is a valuable tool that does more than simply keep your lipstick from bleeding. You can actually use your lip liner in a variety of ways to transform the appearance of your lips for the better. Read on for some lip liner hacks that can take your lips to the next level.

Use the right amount of pressure

If you just too much pressure, you can end up with a harsh line that will look odd as your lipstick wears off throughout the day. Instead, apply your lip liner at a 45-degree angle using light, short strokes. If you need to apply more pressure to get the product out, your lip pencil is drying out and needs to be replaced.

Change your perspective

You want to make sure that your lip liner is straight, but when you are looking straight ahead, you may not realize it is crooked. When you have finished drawing your top line, press your chin to your neck and even out any crookedness from this angle. For your bottom lip, tilt your head upwards to see if it is even.

Plump your pout with contrasting shades

You can make your lips look fuller naturally by using a lip liner in a shade darker than your lipstick. Apply it to your cupid’s bow and the middle of your bottom lip, then blend it with a liner in a color that matches your lipstick. This creates the illusion of fullness. This trick also works with nude lip liner if you are going lipstick-free. Simply line the outside of your lips for more volume.

Use clear lip liner

If you don’t love the look of lip liner but want to benefit from its ability to make your lipstick last all day long, go for a clear lip liner. This will keep your lipstick in place without adding color.

Lipstick first, then liner

If you have trouble lining your lips correctly, give yourself a break by starting with the lipstick first. That way, you know exactly where the line goes, and when your lipstick starts to fade, you aren’t left with an odd ring of lip liner around your lips because it will fade with the lipstick.

Start with liner for more intensity

On the flip side, if you feel confident in your lip liner abilities, applying it before your lipstick will create more intensity. Draw your desired shape by going with the edges of the lip, then fill in the lip with the liner. Layer with a lipstick or lip gloss for longer lasting color.
